Signing Up

What does signing up mean?

"Signing up" is the process of creating an account on Collectish. Once you have signed up to Collectish, you will be able to log in, catalogue your collections and participate in discussions.

Must I sign up to use Collectish?

You don't need to sign up to view the collections.

You must sign up if you wish to create your own collection pages or contribute to the site by rating content or leaving comments.

Do I have to pay money to sign up?

No, you don't. Collectish is free, as in beer, as a bird and like the wind, for your enjoyment.

How do I sign up?

Fill out the form on the Sign up page.

What information must i provide when I sign up?

We require a few things:

• a User ID
• a password
• your email address
• the country that you live in

What is a User ID?

Your user-name is the unique name that identifies you on Collectish.

Can (or should) I use my real name as a User ID?

It's up to you. You can use your actual name, part of your name, a fictitious name or the name of your pet iguana. However, you can't have a User ID that someone else is already using on Collectish.

Will my User ID be visible on the site?

You will be identified on the site using your display name. By default, this is the same as your user ID, but you can change this if you like (see the Display Names help page for more information).

Your display name will be visible on your profile, item and collection pages. It will also be visible next to any comments that you post in the site.

Even if you change your display name, your User ID will still be visible in the web address used to bring up your profile page. So if your User ID is "percy", your profile address will be "collectish.com/Collectors/percy", even if you have changed your display name.

Can I change my User ID after I have signed up?

Right now, we don't allow this. We may do in future.

Passwords

How long must my password be?

Your Collectish password must be at least eight characters in length.

What should I use for a password?

We strongly recommend that you use a strong password that is hard for others to guess, yet easy for you to remember. See the Passwords help page to get some ideas.

Should I give my password to anyone else?

You should not give out your password to anyone, not even your significant other or best friend.

What if I forget my password?

You can request a password reset. See the Passwords page for details.

Why must I provide my email address when I sign up?

We need your email address so that we can:

• confirm that you are who you say you are
• contact you should you ask us to reset your password

Will my email address be visible anywhere on the site?

No, absolutely not. We don't display any information that can be traced back to you. Whilst there is nothing stopping you from putting your own email address or other contact details into your profile page, we strongly urge you not to do this.

Will you start sending me lots of emails once I have signed up?

Our mothers taught us that it is not nice to spam. We will send you two emails as a part of the sign-up process, but after that we shouldn't be making any appearences in your inbox again (unless you contact us first). In future we may introduce new features into Collectish that require us to email you. If so, we will ask you to give us permission to do so.

Why must I provide my country when I sign up?

It's nice for us and for other collectors to have some idea of where you come from. But in future, we're going to be building in certain features that will require us to be able to display collections from certain countries.
