I can't resist - if I see an item in an op shop in lurid retro colours and labelled with the magic words MADE IN W. GERMANY then it must be mine. Sadly the East German side of the collection is drastically under-represented.
New things suck. Including new clothes. Mostly. Old clothes are interesting. Trouble is, 40-50 years ago, ladies were tiny demure things and so too were their clothes. I like to make my own custom versions of fifties frocks with all the alterations necessary to fit my six-foot frame. Old patterns are fairly easy to come by (thank you, internet!) and dedicated scouring of op shops turns up the occasional old sewing guide to learn all the old sewing techniques. Other items in this collection are fabrics, tools and old bits of habby. From a time when every high street had a habadashery, rather than a distant Spotlight in a monster shopping centre. Sigh.
Brooches. Lots and lots and lots of brooches. The tackier the better.
